For six days each August, the Dutchess Fairgrounds on Route 9 in Rhinebeck plays host of up to 400,000 patrons for the Dutchess County Fair. The largest 6 day county fair in New York State is a show place for agriculture in Dutchess County, highlighted by the big name talents, one of the finest carnivals in the entire country, free shows and attractions. The Dutchess County Fairgrounds kicks off the spring events season with the annual Flea Market at Rhinebeck. Giant Indoor / Outdoor Flea Market & Garage Sale. More than 350 vendors. Food court. Each June and October, the Dutchess Fairgrounds is the site for the premier arts and crafts shows in the northeast - the Annual Crafts at Rhinebeck Festival. Both shows are juried and attract some of the finest artists from around the world. The June Crafts at Rhinebeck is a contemporary show, while the fall show has more the flavor of a family festival with a petting zoo and hayrides, as well as fine art & crafts. NYS Sheep and Wool
Family Festival
October 16th & 17th, 2010
A true showcase for one of Dutchess County's first (and still viable) industries, the Sheep and Wool Family Festival is now in its 38th year at the fairgrounds. Hundreds of sheep, llamas and alpacas will be on display and competing for ribbons, while craft and fiber artists from around the country present and sell the best wool and sheep related items. Family activities abound with a Pumpkin Carving, a Hay Maze, horse drawn wagon rides, music, cooking demonstrations, a "Punkin Chuckin" contest and even some Border Collies showing off their shepherding skills.
